# Arvigo Technique of Maya Abdominal Therapy™ (ATMAT)
### MAYA ABDOMINAL THERAPY
The Arvigo Technique incorporates ancient Maya healing therapies into non-invasive, external massage and alignment of the organs and structures of the pelvic and abdominal regions in order to remove congestion. This therapy improves the flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulses and Chi to the pelvis and abdomen, guiding the reproductive and digestive organs into optimal positioning. This removes blockages and can eliminate underlying causes of reproductive and digestive complaints, thereby preventing the progression of symptoms to chronic disease.
Maya Abdominal Therapy blends perfectly with Naturopathic medicine, as both therapies support the body’s inherent ability to self-regulate and heal. With these tools, the goal is to support the vital flow of fluids and energy to nourish and repair the organs and systems naturally, and to allow the body to heal itself.
The uterus is held in position by 10 ligaments, which allow it to stretch and grow during pregnancy and move freely as the bladder and bowel fill. If these ligaments tighten, weaken or loosen, the uterus can move out of position. Up to 80% of women are estimated to have a displaced or fallen uterus as a result of trauma or lifestyle. In addition, the pelvic and abdominal regions are storehouses for emotional stress, which can cause further congestion.

### ANCIENT ROOTS
Abdominal Therapy is a therapeutic treatment that has been known and practiced by healers for thousands of years but discarded by modern medicine in this century.
The original Maya Abdominal Massage was used to treat fertility problems and digestive disorders in Central America, with similar therapies found in other indigenous cultures around the world.
Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN, developed these techniques after apprenticing with Don Elijio Panti, the last of the Traditional Maya Shaman in Belize, Central America, where she has lived for over 40 years. Dr. Arvigo has subsequently trained qualified professionals to practice this holistic and ancient technique, and they have discovered that the therapy improves a long list of digestive and reproductive symptoms. The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage™ combines modern science with traditional healing and wisdom to produce a holistic path to physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

### WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT
The ATMAT, begins with review of your individual health history, and includes a personalized herbal and nutritional plan that compliments your naturopathic care, as well as a follow up plan to help achieve your goals.
The Maya Abdominal Therapy is a relaxing and soothing experience performed by Dr. Nearpass involving deep, strong strokes and gentle pelvic rocking. Stretching and gentle corrective maneuvers work the ligaments and muscles to optimize organ and structural positioning.
During the Maya Abdominal Therapy, you will be taught how to effectively massage your own abdomen as a continuation of your treatment. While many patients will feel the beneficial effects of the therapy after one session, it is important to practice the techniques at home. This empowers you to influence and promote your healing and take responsibility for your own health. A few minutes of self-massage a day is key to permanently repositioning the uterus and resolving long-term problems – without the need for extended professional treatment.
Ideally, we recommend an initial series of three in-office sessions. Occasional maintenance visits may be necessary, depending on your condition and your dedication to the self-care massage.
