How We Help
Common Health Conditions Treated
Naturopathic doctors focus on the whole person instead of a single system or pathology. This mindset gives us the ability to work with nearly every individual to strengthen all aspects of human physiology, thereby reducing opportunity for manifestation of disease. We see a wide range of patients, including children over the age of two, teens and adults, from those striving to prevent disease to those plagued by complex layers of pathology.
Since 2003, the doctors at the Mountain-River Naturopathic Clinic have worked with thousands of patients with a vast array of health concerns. Some of the more common conditions we treat include the following:
Endocrine/hormonal imbalance
We work with a wide range of hormonal imbalances, such as adrenal fatigue and stress, thyroid issues including autoimmune thyroiditis (aka Hashimoto's or Graves's disease), diabetes and perimenopause. We dive deep, looking for connections between the various hormones and how hormones are impacted by lifestyle, stress and nutrition. Our goal is to remove obstacles that interfere with optimal function and to support the body in producing a balanced symphony of hormones, leading to patient well-being and optimal health.
Women’s health issues
Dr. Kim Nearpass, ND has a passion for and expertise in women’s health and enjoys working with all ages, from menarche to menopause. She supports women with a wide range of reproductive health issues including perimenopause, PMS, menstrual pain, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fertility challenges, cervical dysplasia, chronic vaginitis, urinary tract infections, as well as perinatal and postpartum mood disorders. Services include well-woman exams and Pap testing, hormonal and contraceptive counseling, reproductive-specific body work and preconception care and family planning.
Chronic disease: Lyme disease, mold exposures, infection, cardiovascular
At Mountain-River Naturopathic Clinic we see you, not just your lab numbers. High cholesterol, hypertension and cardiovascular disease are never treated in isolation because we look at the whole picture of your health and use advanced imaging, along with precise blood testing, to personalize your care. Dr. Pollack has expertise and experience with mold and mycotoxins, as well as persistent Lyme disease, and both doctors help when chronic sinusitis, fibromyalgia or environmental toxicity are dragging you down. We see the entire person and use dietary shifts, botanical medicine and targeted supplementation in combinations that work for you.
Digestive issues
At Mountain-River Naturopathic Clinic, we believe that optimal digestion is imperative for overall health and we are the best trained to get to the root causes of digestive dis-ease. Hippocrates is quoted as saying that “all disease starts in the gut”, and Naturopathic doctors are the practitioners who most closely follow that rule. The vast majority of digestive issues are not pathologic, but rather symptoms of functional imbalances such as suboptimal digestion, nutritional insufficiencies or sensitivities, chronic use of antibiotics or other medications, or other systemic issues such as stress or hormonal imbalances. Both doctors work with gastroenterological concerns such as maldigestion and absorption, weight loss, gas, pain, bloating, reflux, heartburn, liver and gall bladder issues, IBS, Crohn's and Celiac disease, candida (yeast), SIBO, diverticulosis and parasites.
Immune dysfunction: allergies, autoimmunity, chronic & acute infection
Your immune system is incredibly smart and has been keeping you healthy for years, but if it starts attacking your own tissue (as in autoimmunity) or reacting to everyday foods (as in food sensitivities or allergies), something has disrupted your equilibrium. Through the use of targeted blood tests for antibodies, Dr. Justin Pollack's bioenergetic assessments, or elimination and reintroduction protocols, we uncover the root causes driving gut issues and chronic inflammation. Our goal is to gently guide your immune system back to harmony using natural personalized strategies.
Mental-emotional challenges
Your brain and body are deeply connected through the vagus nerve, with your gut microbiome turning the amino acids from your food into key neurotransmitters like serotonin, GABA and dopamine that directly affect how you feel. When your life is dragged down by mood disturbances such as anxiety or depression, disrupted by attention deficit, insomnia, fatigue or other stressors, we see the whole you and use proven natural approaches. We complement the work you do with your therapist, so together we can help you reclaim your vitality and well-being.
Common pediatric concerns & well-child checks
Our team at Mountain-River Naturopathic Clinic strive to help parents raise healthy children, lowering dependence on pharmaceutical medication, reducing risk of chronic disease and setting kids up for lifelong health. Both doctors work with pediatric and teen issues such as eczema, chronic ear infections, colds and flu, congestion, acne, digestive problems, and mood and behavior challenges. Services include vaccine counseling, parenting support, nutritional counseling, well-child checks and sports physicals. Under current Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies rules, we can only work with children two years of age and older.
